Annual Arts Celebration and Fundraiser

The SMAHC Annual Celebration and Fundraising “Artoberfest” was held on Saturday, October 13th at the Marshall Golf Club in Marshall.  A great time was had by all who attended this gala event.  The evening’s activities began with a social hour and Silent Auction.  We were entertained by the fabulous piano playing of Dana Funk from Marshall.  This was followed by a 3 course dinner of chicken or pork loin.  A brief Annual Meeting took place after dinner and that was followed by the awarding of the annual SMAHC Prairie Disciple award and the SMAHC Prairie Star award.

The Prairie Disciple award was given to Bob Whitney from Willmar. Bob is the owner of Whitney Music Center and has been a great supporter of the arts over the years.  He is also an accomplished musician.  He is a member of the Green Lake Bluegrass Band which provided entertainment at the end of the evening’s events.  The award was presented by Luanne Fondell.

The Prairie Star award was given to Daniel Rieppel, Professor of Music and musical director of the Southwest Minnesota Orchestra.  Dr. Rieppel is a distinguished concert pianist who has performed at various venues in the United States and Europe.  Dr. Rieppel performed 2 piano pieces at his awards presentation, including a scherzo by Chopin and Toccata by Robert Whitcomb.  The award was presented by Bill Holm

The evening culminated with the first ever SMAHC Live Auction.  Eight items were auctioned by the enthusiastic auctioneer, Kristine Fladeboe-Duininck of Fladeboe Auctions to an equally enthusiastic and lively audience.  The bidding was fast and furious for the eight items on the live auction.
