SMAHC ANNOUNCES $6349.00 IN GRANT AWARDS TO SCHOOLS & ORGANIZATIONS  FOR ARTS IN EDUCATION & COMMUNITIES PROJECTS

The Board of Directors of the Southwest Minnesota Arts & Humanities Council (SMAHC) voted on December 5th, 2005 to award a total of $6349.00 to five schools and one arts organization under the MCKNIGHT/SMAHC ARTS IN EDUCATION & COMMUNITIES grant program.  With funds appropriated by the State Legislature and the McKnight Foundation, this program provides matching grant awards of up to $2,500 for artist residency activities, up to $750 for pre-packaged theater residencies and up to $600 to aid in field trips to qualified arts exhibitions and performances.  The next grant application deadline for Arts in Education & Communities is April 1, 2006 for projects beginning after May 31, 2006.  The most recent grant award recipients in the McKnight/SMAHC Arts in Education & Communities program are:

Lake Benton School, Lake Benton, in the amount of $1041 for a Ta-coumba Aiken Mural Residency Project.

Lakeview School District #2167, Cottonwood, in the amount of $600 for a field trip to the Children’s Theater, Art Institute of Minneapolis and the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden.

Milroy Public Schools, Milroy, in the amount of $750 for a Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre Residency.

RTR High School, Tyler, in the amount of $1,288 for a Ta-coumba Aiken Mural Residency Project.

Friends of the Auditorium, Worthington, in the amount of $745 for a Missoula Children’s Theatre Residency.

Canby Public Schools Community Education, in the amount of $750 for a Prairie Fire Children’s Theatre Residency.

Lakeview School District #2167, Cottonwood, in the amount of $1175 for a James Dahl Visual Art Residency.

The next deadline for Arts in Education & Communities Grants is April 1 (drafts due March 1) for projects beginning after May 31st.  Apply by April 1 for projects that occur before December 1, 2006.
