SMAHC AWARDS GRANTS TO SCHOOLS IN THE ARTS & LEARNING GRANT PROGRAM

 

Winsted Elementary School, Winsted, received $600 for a Field Trip to Stages Theater.  This all school field trip is for students K-4th grade will see a play of the familiar children’s story “The Snowy Day.”  The play will be incorporated into their “I Love to Read Month” activities and school-wide winter festival promoting multi-age groupings for arts/crafts/movement activities

Red Rock Central Schools, Lamberton, received $1,310 for the Lamberton Jazz Festival.  This day long event is for junior and senior high school jazz bands.  This year, the Lamberton Jazz Festival has the honor of hosting the U.S. Army Field Band Jazz Ambassadors as their guest clinicians and band

Southwest Minnesota State University, Marshall, received $2,500 for the Dennis Wilson Jazz Residency.  Mr. Wilson will conduct a residency with the SMSU Jazz Ensemble focusing on the authentic performance of jazz by large ensembles and the individual skill required.  Additional educational opportunities will be provided for area high school band directors and students through open clinics.

Lakeview School District #2167, Cottonwood, received $600 for an 8th grade field trip to the Minnesota Center for Book Art, the Art Institute of Minneapolis, and the Minneapolis Sculpture Gardens.  They will use the book made at the Center for poetry that has been written in their English class.  These books will also become art forms as they are enhanced in their art class.  Students will have their final projects displayed at the spring concert.  The pubic is invited to travel with the students on this field trip.

 

Southwest Minnesota State University, Marshall, received $2,500 for the Fawcett/Lewis Residencies.  Playwrights Jennifer Fawcett and Sean Christopher Lewis will conduct a residency with SMSU Theatre and Creative Writing students and area educators/residents, including workshops, readings/performances, and informal interaction opportunities
