Pipestone Performing Arts Center

The Pipestone Performing Arts Center has been a center for the arts for 15 years in the town of Pipestone in Southwest Minnesota.  They are the home of the Opland Singers, The Calumet Players, The Calumet Children’s Theater, The Presenter Series of concerts, art shows and lectures, and various other meetings and get-togethers.  The mission of the PPAC is to provide facilities, leadership, and encouragement of the arts through education, advancement, and presentation of a wide range of activities contributing to the enrichment of cultural life for the benefit of all in their community.  They are managed by a volunteer board of directors and the managing director, Dennis Hansen.

When the task force first met in 1992, the thought was to create a new space in the community for presentations and productions. The Opland Singers needed a home base for their shows.  Community theater had been tried over the years, never finding an adequate space. A presenter series was added to fill in the programming and this was the beginning of the new Pipestone Performing Arts Center.

Since that first season, the Opland Singers has produced 2 shows per year, one in the spring and one at Christmas.  The Calumet Players have three productions annually.  And the Calumet Player’s Children’s Theater is an active group with 2 productions per year.  In September, 1999, Main Street Jamboree made its debut.  It is their version of the popular “Prairie Home Companion”. It is broadcast on KLOH Radio Sundays from 4 to 6 pm and showcases national, regional and local country and folk artists. It started broadcasting bi-monthly and now airs two or three times a year.

Several other groups have been added to the schedule of events including the Sagio Club Art Show, and the 4-H Fashion Review and Fun Fest.

Many other concerts and events have come to PPAC over the years including the Lake Wobegon Brass Band, Dino, the Ink Spots, Steel Magnolias, the Minnesota Orchestra, and many, many more.

This year is no different.  There is a wonderful lineup of concerts and events the remainder of this season.  You can find out what is playing at the PPAC by visiting their website at www.pipestoneminnesota.com/artscenter.  Visit their site and take in a concert!
