SMAHC GRANT PANELISTS NEEDED

 

For grant programs in fiscal year 2012 (July 2011 - June 2012), the SMAHC Board of Directors seeks panels of artists, arts administrators, arts volunteers, and arts appreciators representing multiple artistic disciplines from throughout the SMAHC geographic region. 

 

You may apply to serve on one or more of these panels, which meet on the following dates:

 

          Organizations may apply for assistance for events like community theatre productions, music or dance performances, visual arts exhibits, arts festivals, or art classes for   

          community members of all ages (excluding projects in schools).

   

    Round I: September 17, 2011, 9:00 am

    Round II: February 11, 2012, 9:00 am

    Round III: June 9, 2012, 9:00 am

 

 

    Developing artists and established career artists may apply for assistance in producing a portfolio or demo, purchasing supplies, studying with a mentor, or renting exhibition   

    facilities.  Young artists (K-12) may apply for high quality art study opportunities through Art Study Opportunity for Youth Grants program.

   

    Developing and Established Career Artists: January 7, 2012, 9:00 am

    Art Study Opportunity for Young Artists: March 17, 2012, 9:00 am

     

 

    Schools may apply for assistance for projects like professional artists’ residencies in a variety of disciplines, field trips to performances, studios, or galleries, or pre-packaged 

    theatre experiences such as the Missoula Children’s Theatre.

   

    Round I: November 12, 2011, 9:00 am

    Round II: May 5, 2012, 9:00 am

GRANT PANEL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

About the Panel position:
        -  
Term is one year

        -   Appointments are by SMAHC Board decision.  The board seeks to find panelists from throughout the SMAHC  

     geographic region representing a balance of members with backgrounds in each of the artistic disciplines and   

     representing artists, arts organizations, schools and the community at large. 

 

About Panel meetings:
        -  
Meetings are generally held on Saturdays at the SMAHC office in Marshall at 9:00 A.M.
        -   Meeting length is dependent on number of applications.  Agenda will contain time recommendations.
        -   Lunch, snacks, and beverages are provided by SMAHC.
        -   Mileage is reimbursed at .555 cents per mile.
        -   Attendance is crucial (a quorum of five panel members is required).
        -   Panelists must notify staff well in advance if unable to attend.

 

About Panel responsibilities:
        -   
Position is an active, working one.
        -   Responsible for understanding program goals and objectives. 

        -   Responsible for reviewing application forms prior to meeting.
        -   Must take active role in reviewing and making recommendations with other members of the panel based on the criteria for the program.  The criteria    

            for Art Project Grants and Arts in the Schools Grants are artistic quality and merit of the project, ability to accomplish the project, and collaboration and

            support for the project.  The criteria for Individual Artist Grants are overall excellence of the work and demonstration of exceptional talent, evidence of

            serious professional commitment, project’s contribution to the artist’s professional growth.

        -   Panelists must declare any conflict of interest at the beginning of each meeting.  If a conflict of interest exists, panelists are asked to leave the room

            during discussion and voting on any application for which a conflict of interest exists. 

        -   An individual cannot serve on the Individual Artist Grant Panel if they are applying for an Individual Artist Grant. 
        -   Panel only has recommendation powers.  The SMAHC Board of Directors makes final decisions.
        -   Panelists must agree not to discuss the recommendations of the panel to the board prior to the board action on those recommendations.

        -   Panelists are asked to volunteer to conduct site evaluations of funded projects.  Free passes are provided and mileage is reimbursed.
